Movement Type

Various monsters have differing movement capability. The options are "Walking", "Swimming", Flying", and "Phasing":

  • "Walking" Monsters can only walk on dry land or ice. They are likely to sink into, and flounder in, water, lava, or acid.
  • "Swimming" monsters can move freely through water. (And acid or lava, if they have appropriate resistances). Note that POWDER has no aquatic-only monsters -- all swimmers can also walk on dry land or ice.
  • "Flying" monsters can fly over land, ice, water or acid, but still need fire resistance to safely cross lava. They can also ignore certain traps, including pits and spiked pit.
  • "Phasing" monsters (Ghosts) can move through walls, stone, and doors, but cannot cross water, lava, or acid.
  • There is one special case -- the summoned Wizard's Eye can both fly over water, acid, or pits, and also phase through walls and other obstacles. It can "swim" as well, but it can't breathe underwater, and has no special resistances.
