Ghost

Encyclopedia
Death, they say, is but the start of a new journey. Some, it would seem, are not yet interested in that new journey, but remain in this world to plague the living.
Ghosts are the incorporeal souls of the restless dead. They possess a hatred of those who still enjoy the feel of fresh air.
Warriors tell of trying to fight ghosts, but being overcome by fright at their hideous appearance, or finding that their weapons seemed to have no effect.

Attack Information
They "frighten" for 2d3 damage, with a 20% chance of paralyzing you for 1d4+2 turns.
Additional Information
- Besides being invisible, Ghosts are immune to most physical attacks, though they are damaged normally by any "elemental" damage: fire, cold, acid, shock, and light.
- They are damaged normally by silver weapons, and if those also do elemental damage (e.g, artifacts or a Silver Wand), the elemental damage is doubled,
- They can move through walls and stone, though they can still be attacked by someone adjacent to them. However, they cannot cross water or lava (unless they first freeze it with a Frost Bolt). Acid pools will likewise block them (and those don't freeze). They can't pass through boulders, either.
- Naturally, they are bloodless, and their ethereal forms cannot be petrified.
- Holy water does 2d4 damage to undead.
Tips and Strategies
At low levels, ghosts will be limited to the appearance of Haunted Isles, bearing tempting artifacts but surrounded by water. Don't hang out nearby -- if they see you, they may use Frost Bolt to bridge the water and escape! To attack them, you'll need appropriate attack spells or wands, silver weapons, or weapons with elemental damage. (That last includes most artifact weapons, also the Flaming Sword, Flaming Arrows, Ice Mace, and Lightning Rapier.) Since they can paralyze you, you'll want Fast or Quick as well as Cold Resistance -- and remember, you can't wear two pairs of boots at once! See Invisible also helps, but Warning will do in a pinch.
