Belweir the Near Sighted is the patron deity of Wizards. Belweir incorporates in the form of a large rock mole. Belweir's knowledge of mystical matters exceeds all other beings.

Followers are encouraged to cast spells, identify things, and dress well. Followers are discouraged from melee combat.

Followers receive +0/+15 per level.

Starting Equipment

Random Weapon: Knife, Dagger, Silver Dagger, Club, Short Sword.
Specific Armour: Plain Robe.
Two Random Spellbooks.
One Random Bonus Item! (10% chance of a second random bonus item)

Gaining and Losing Piety

The following actions influence Piety with this deity. Negative actions have a double impact on Piety if you are currently following this God. Forbidden actions will reset Piety to zero and cause the God to pour his current God Points into a punishment.

Positive Actions:

  • +1 to +3: Kill a creature with a spell
  • +1: Wear the appropriate dress code (20% chance each round)
  • +1: Zap a wand
  • +3: ID an item
  • +n: Cast a spell gives (n = mana/5)

Negative Actions:

  • -1: Each round you are surrounded (more than one adjacent enemy)
  • -1: Attack using melee (20% chance per attack)

Forbidden Actions:

  • None

Headgear: Floppy Hat
Rings: A ring on each finger.
Armour: Plain Robe
Boots: Pointed Slippers


Those dressed as a wizard will get a bonus to mana regeneration. They will also gain piety with Belweir over time.

Level-Up Bonuses

Belweir will sometimes grant you spells. At each level the character will gain 1.5 magic levels, and 6d2+3 magic points. You gain no bonus to physical levels or hit points.

Tips and Tricks

  • Collect as many different items as you can, even if you do not plan to use them. That way, when you use your first ID scroll more items will be IDed and you will gain more piety.
  • Dressing like a wizard gives you a mana regeneration of 1.5 per turn, three times the default 0.5 per turn.
