Encyclopedia

Originally formulated to deal with the crippling droughts that faced the Western Pederbar region, downpour was never successfully used in that capacity. The intensity of the deluge ensures any parched soil targeted will be washed away, defeating its use as a direct rain replacement. Attempts to use it to replenish resevoirs for irrigations systems were abandoned when it was realized that, unlike the version used by Water Elementals, this spell actually acquires its water from the surrounding air instead of the Plane of Water. As such, it will only worsen drought conditions.

Downpour is now only learned by wizards who appreciate the ability to use the threat of a good soaking to keep unruly apprentices in line.

Description

Can be cast on any square in your line of sight. Creates a down pour of water. This has a variety of effects.

  • Used on a lava tile will freeze it.
  • Used on a teleporter will cause it to dump the water on another location at random.
  • Used on a Pit or Spiked Pit will fill it with water, turning it into a water tile.
  • Used on a Fire Elemental, it will deal 1d50+50 damage and create a steam cloud.
  • Used on a target that's Aflame, the Aflame intrinsic will be removed.
  • Used on a forest fire tile, it will be turned back into a normal forest tile and create a steam cloud.
  • Used on a tile with empty bottles will fill all of those bottles, turning them into bottles of water. This didn't work in POWDER versions 113-115, the bottles just got wet.
