It is said that Prakal, the Earth Mage, perfected a version of this spell which does not require Dig as a prerequisite. We can only guess what it was. Prakal's mummified remains, found buried in solid rock, have told us nothing.

Description

Does not require a target. Changes all of the tiles adjacent to the caster into stone walls. It has no effect on invulnerable tiles, or tiles with creatures in them. The ultimate protection spell, instantly walls the caster off from the world. :>

Tip: Combined with Dig and perhaps a few maze walls, you can make a nice little sanctuary with a few squares to stash your stuff in. To avoid breaching the walls, you can teleport in and out. You'll want the teleport spell for that -- you can make do with other methods plus Teleport Control, but be careful not to scatter your stuff with a Wand of Teleport. With Down Pour, you can even have a little pool to replenish your holy water. Just remember that monsters can spawn inside it... and if you've left them the means to teleport, they might be able to get out with your stuff! If you really want to put an item out of reach of any monster, put a wall over the item, and dig it out when you need it.
