Encyclopedia
This rather large lizard is a distant cousin of the more familiar desert dwelling chameleon. Exposure to powerful magic forces seems to have amplified its colour shifting ability into the ability to adopt the form of almost any creature! Be warned it gains the creature's special powers when it transforms. A large number of dungeoneers thus advocate destroying chameleons before they have a chance to change into something even more frightening.

Tips and Strategies
- When you see an unexpectedly powerful monster at low levels, (and you haven't heard Xom laugh) it's likely to be a Chameleon. Another hint is when you get "punched" by a humanoid that's normally generated with weapons, such as an Orc or Troll. You can also Look at a creature to see if it is wielding something or not.
- Alas, you don't get the experience for killing its polymorphed form.
- Eating the corpse can make your game interesting for a while....
- If it takes the form of a Soul Sucker, your amnesia will end quickly if it switches to another form, but this will only happen if you're still on the same level as the Chameleon.
