Attack Information
Whip with their tentacles for 1d5+1 damage. After Soul Sucking a victim, they can use weapons and/or spells.
Additional Information
- Soul Suckers are intelligent enough to open doors, so if you need to escape from one, either Teleport away or close the door and use a Wand of Invisibility to hide it.
- Be careful of the Track and Fetch spells -- if you know Track, when the Soul Sucker steals it from you, it may then cast it on you, bringing the whole floor down on defenseless you. Similarly, it can use your own Fetch spell to summon you.
Tips and Strategies
- Once it sucks your soul, you won't be casting any spells for a while, so:
- Before attacking, heal up (perhaps casting Regenerate), and set up any protections you have against your own attack spells.
- Likewise, equip strong armor and a high-damage weapon, preferably with a "to hit" bonus, as you'll lose your weapon and armor skills.
- If you're running hungry with Endure Hunger, eat up now, because you'll lose that too!
- Finally, cut loose with whatever attack spells or other distance attacks you can get off before it sucks your soul. But stay at a distance (and away from other hostiles), since you'll need to wait out the confusion effect of the soul suck.
- Once the confusion wears off, you can either close in to attack, or else use wands and other non-spell distance attacks. Afterwards, hide out for a bit until your spells and skills return.
- If you run away after being hit with Soul Suck, its duration can be very long. Even so, if you get hit unexpectedly you may need to escape to reequip, and perhaps eat. If you kill the Soul Sucker, you will regain your skills and spells within a few rounds.
- Soul Suckers are a very good creature to use Wands of Fire or Ice on to dispatch quickly.
