Small mice scurry anywhere that food scraps may be found. To the novice, their movement may seem chaotic and random. The skilled mouser learns to anticipate their every move.

As a Hero on a Great Quest, you surely don't care about becoming a better mouser.

Additional Information

  • Mice are normally non-hostile.
  • Mice have their own unique movement and attack pattern:
    • A mouse will always follow a wall in whatever direction it is going, attempting to keep a wall (or other obstacle, such as water or a monster) on their right.
    • If stranded without anything to follow, they will move straight ahead until they find something.
    • Even when angered, a mouse will only attack if it cannot move into any open squares.
    • Even pet mice are subject to these rules, and can't usually obey commands.

Tips and Strategies

  • Mice may be the weakest creatures in the game, but they are worth a fair amount of experience points in the early game and present little danger. The best way to hunt them down is follow them into a room and seal the exits, swinging whenever they go by. In addition, early spells such as Flash and Chilling Touch always hit, and will always kill a mouse in one hit.
  • Mice do sometimes spawn with treasure.
  • The occasional unique (named) mouse is a lot tougher, but may well carry an artifact.
  • Their rapid and consistent motion can tell a bit about what's ahead -- for example, if a mouse heads down a corridor, but comes back within a few turns, it may have been turned back by a monster down the corridor!
