Encyclopedia
This ghastly spell does not wait for the foe to die. Any creature at death's gate can be the target of this cruel magic. The remaining life force is used to power a grisly transformation from life into unlife. The resulting ghast makes an excellent addition to any necromancers undead army.
Description
Can be cast on any adjacent target, or upon yourself. The target must be at "Death's Gate", which is 1 hitpoint. The target creature becomes a Ghast, but keeps all of their spells and skills. Ghasts also retain any intrinsics they had in life, eg. a bat ghast will still be fast. The target's health is also restored to maximum. Life Saving will not protect against this spell, but Unchanging will, and it has no effect on undead creatures.
Tips and Tricks
This can be used on yourself for a one-time rescue, and an an interesting alternative to playing as a lich. Note that a ghast has humanoid equipment slots no matter what its original species was, so this combines well with Kender's Body Hop. Ghastify creatures with beneficial intrinsics, rather than slower creatures like slugs, choose fast or quick creatures like any of the bats, or those with elemental resistances such as Gelatinous Cubes. Kobolds and their special types are useful since they have spell and skill slots, as well as Evade Traps. A Ghastified Purple Tridude is the most reliable way to combine Physical Immunity with slots, though you could also get lucky with a unique.
