The grisly reversal of the Petrify Spell is not for the faint of heart. While it is essential for restoring those who have become statues, the process is not something one should watch closely. Equally disturbing is the effect of applying it to stone which was never living.
Description
This turns any stone item or creature into flesh. Any other material is unaffected. Can be cast on any visible square in our line of sight. If there is a creature at the target location:
- It will be given 1d5+6 rounds of the Stoning Resistance intrinsic.
- If it was Turning to Stone, it will lose that intrinsic (rescuing it).
- Stone Golems will become Flesh Golems, and Cave Trolls will become normal Trolls.
- Earth Elementals will be killed instantly, leaving behind a large Mound of Flesh, although you will not get any experience for killing them this way.
Any items at the target location will likewise be "unpetrified":
- A section of wall or stone tile, or a boulder, will become a Mound of Flesh. If you have Fetch, it's worth collecting boulders so you can stack them and transform them all at once.
- Small items made of stone with this spell will turn into Meatballs. Any other items with the Stone material type will instead be the Flesh material type.
This spell is a mid-level essential for keeping Pax (and your stomach) happy, as Mounds of Flesh are not merely edible, but ample. They never decay, and (unlike corpses) stack in your inventory. However, overuse of this spell can seriously add to your H'ruth-hate.
